Walmart, Metro, McDonald's among India's 10 best workplaces in 2018

Cash and carry firm Walmart India, Metro Cash & Carry and fast food major McDonald's have been enlisted as the top ten retail companies in India to work for in 2018 by the Great Place to Work Institute, India (GPWI) and Retailers Association of India (RAI) in a joint study called Great Places to Work 2018.

An assessment of 29 companies that operate majorly in the offline format was carried out for the sixth year in a row by RAI and GPWI based on their working trends and working environment.

Other companies that occupied the top 10 list of workplaces in retail in 2018 includes sportswear major Puma, electronics retailer Croma, food chain Barbecue Nation, Shoppers Stop, Marks & Spencer, Starbucks, and Lifestyle.

Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of RAI said, "This report by ‘Great Place to Work’ is a humble way of recognizing practices that help to attract, retaining and developing talent in the industry. There is a lot one can learn about a strategic approach to people management from some of the best practices mentioned in the report. The report is a good eyeopener for every CEO, HR head, Operations head and other leader in retail industry to focus on creating conducive workplaces.”

The Great Place to Work report looks at differentiating factors of these 10 workplaces that make them stand out among their peers and brings out some key people practices and principles that are a part of the winning philosophy of these companies. The report also looks at workplace culture through various demographic filters like years of operation, employee strength and being an Indian company or an MNC.
