Amazon India ties up with BookMyShow for movie ticket booking

Amazon has partnered with BookMyShow, an online ticket booking platform, to help its customers buy movie tickets from within its own app. This is a 5-year deal. 

The partnership will boost the US-based e-commerce firm's effort to become a one-stop-shop for all online consumer transactions in India.

Mahendra Nerurkar, Director of Amazon Pay, said, “This partnership increases the acceptance of Amazon Pay and adds a new dimension to how people see the instrument, its utility and usefulness. Amazon Pay is also available as a payment instrument on BookMyShow or Cleartrip, so we leave it up to the customer where they want to pay.”

Amazon India users can log onto the app or mobile site in order to book their tickets from the ‘movie tickets' category under ‘shop by category' or the Amazon Pay tab. Customers will also be getting access to BookMyShow's content offerings like movie reviews, ratings, synopsis, posters and other offerings. 

Ashish Hemrajani, Founder and CEO, BookMyShow, stated, “This partnership will further extend the convenience of digital transactions on Amazon.in to the ‘Movie Tickets' category making the experience absolutely seamless for all consumers.”

“It made a lot of sense for BookMyShow to dip into that customer base of non-banked, unaccounted for and probably cash customers that Amazon is trying to solve for,” he added.
