Armani Applies a Velvet Touch To Its Exclusive Second Edition Of India's Menswear Edition

Velvet has always been one of the Milanese maestro's favorite materials and it is ubiquitous in his autumn-winter collection for menswear: black as the darkest night and, as he put it in his collection notes, dense, tactile and mysterious.

When it comes to sartorial craftsmanship and tailoring, there’s no better match than the Italians. And it’s no surprise that Giorgio Armani is synonymous with a perfectly-tailored suit. So when the Italian luxury houses first announced a capsule collection dedicated to Indian-inspired menswear back in 2019, it was a perfect marriage of the two cultures in clean-cut suiting. The capsule line was inspired by the designer's past travels to the country in 1994, which left an enduring influence on his work, and still continue to have an impact.

The exclusive edit focused on the achkan, a shorter, more fitted counterpart to the more traditional sherwani. However, Armani’s designs had no less ceremonial appeal. The minimal jackets feature a bandhgala-inspired neckline and statement buttons that act as the only embellishment.

With variations in length, the pieces are updated with a deep wine color in luxurious wool and velvet.
