Flipkart-owned fashion portal Myntra has appointed Nandita Sinha as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace its outgoing Chief Executive Amar Nagaram.
This is also the first time a woman executive will be at this position in the e-commerce group. Sinha will move to her new role from January 1, 2022.
Nagaram is leaving Myntra to start his own venture but he will stay with Myntra till the end of December. Sinha's replacement is yet to be finalized in Flipkart. Nagaram has been with Flipkart for almost seven years before moving to Myntra as its CEO in 2019.
Sinha has been with Flipkart since 2013 and most recently she was the VP for Customer Growth - Media, and Engagement, at the company. She has also been actively engaged with Flipkart's flagship Diwali sale event Big Billion Days and is said to be a close aide of Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy.
This comes at a time when online retail has seen a recovery in sales in the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic which impacted the fashion segment harder compared to others.
Sinha moves to Myntra at a time when the fashion etailer has been widening its offerings in segments like beauty and personal care besides experimenting with influencer-led live commerce shopping. Earlier this month Myntra has started testing influencer-led live online shopping on its platform, becoming one of the first major e-commerce platforms in India to experiment with the model which has been a success in China.
Essentially, a group of experts and influencers in the domain of fashion, beauty, and personal care hold live video sessions on the platform and one can purchase products directly by adding them to the cart while the session is underway. Myntra is expected to announce its foray into live commerce in the coming weeks.
