Flipkart buys AR firm Scapic to enhance user engagement

The Flipkart Group has acquired an augmented reality (AR) company Scapic for an undisclosed amount. Scapic, a cloud-based platform, enables the creation and publishing of AR and 3D content, serving clients across e-commerce and marketing.

With this acquisition, Flipkart will be buying a 100% stake in the company and onboard a team of developers and designers. This team will be working towards accelerating the company’s efforts to offer deeper camera experiences, virtual storefronts, and new opportunities for brand advertising on its platform.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group, said, “This year has accelerated online adoption - be it education, communication or shopping, as people prioritise health and safety. As we make investments that focus on developing and nurturing the retail ecosystem, we are also committed to making our platform easier to navigate and richer for consumers in terms of content and experience.”

Founded by Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V in 2017, Scapic is based out of Bangalore. The no-code platform of Scapic helps create immersive experiences across categories like fashion, furniture & electronics.
