Flipkart ties up with Nepal's Sastodeal to strengthen market for Indian sellers

This partnership will enable cross-border trade opportunities for Flipkart's Indian sellers.

Flipkart has collaborated with Sastodeal, an e-commerce company from Nepal. This partnership will enable cross-border trade opportunities for Flipkart’s Indian sellers.

As part of this partnership, Sastodeal will be hosting products from Indian e-commerce marketplace sellers operating across the categories like babycare & kids, audio devices, men’s clothing, women's ethnic wear, and sports & fitness, among others. This will enable access to customers in Nepal.

Initially, the collaboration will see more than 5,000 products listed on Sastodeal. MarQ and SmartBuy, the Private Brands of Flipkart, will further be listed on the Sastodeal platform, with a focus on categories including electronics, home appliances/home decor, and furnishings.

Jagjeet Harode, Head of Marketplace, Flipkart, stated, “The partnership with Sastodeal, a homegrown brand like ours, will not just open doors for a wider market reach to our sellers but also allow them to boost their business significantly.”

Amun Thapa, CEO of Sastodeal, added, “The opportunity brought by Flipkart for Nepalese consumers is going to build a strong growth story for ecommerce in our country.”

This tie up will likely benefit the MSME category on the Flipkart platform as majority of sellers belong to this category on the marketplace.

A Flipkart press statement stated, “As MSMEs across the country bounce back and continue to look towards newer avenues for business growth, opportunities like these give them further confidence in the potential of ecommerce platforms.”

Presently, Flipkart has 200,000 sellers across India. Of which, over 50% come from smaller cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Meerut, Surat, Kanpur, Agra, Coimbatore, and Ahmedabad.

Dev Iyer, Vice President, Private Brands, Flipkart, added, “The preference of consumers in a country like Nepal is very similar to India. We are confident that the adoption of our Private Brands MarQ and SmartBuy will be strong.”
