Asia's first evergreen conference

Meluha the Fern Hotel in Powai’s Hiranandani gardens organised Asia's first-ever green hotel conference to talk on the issues relating to environment.

Experts from the travel, hotel and food and beverage industries attended the event, which aimed at bringing about visible changes in environment conservation. Meluha The Fern – which ranks among the top four hotels in this clamatic zone as far as reducing the carbon footprint is concerned, according to the HCMI index – came up with the mantra reduce, reuse and recycle.
Param Kannampilly, chairman and managing director, Concept Hospitality Pvt Ltd, said, “We, as a company, have made protecting the environment as a part of our brand commitment. Just by saying we are a green hotel is not enough. We need to define, measure, analyse and eventually have control, which helps in external audit and brings credibility to our efforts.”

Ramesh Chembath mentioned, “In our organisation green is in our DNA. We believed in green much before it became fashionable. Our products are researched and designed to create a balance between what we can give back to Mother Nature while offering the consumer measurable savings.”

Viren Merchant and Shrikrishna Bhagwat were honoured with the green champion awards for starting the advanced locality management (ALM) in the year 1990, while Aabid Surti was awarded the title for his simple and outstanding innovative work for water conservation through his non-governmental organisation Drop Dead.
