Baskin-Robbins, one of the largest quick-service ice cream chains globally and in India, has marked a significant milestone with the opening of its 1000th location. The new store, situated in Andheri, Mumbai, reflects the brand’s three decades of presence in India and the broader SAARC region.
The Andheri outlet spans over 750 square feet, making it the largest Baskin-Robbins location in Mumbai and one of the largest in India. This expansion signals the brand's continued focus on growing its footprint in the Indian hospitality and retail market. The store's opening was attended by key stakeholders, industry leaders, and loyal customers, recognizing Baskin-Robbins' consistent growth in the region.
Since its entry into India in 1993 through Graviss Foods, the master franchisee for the brand in India and the SAARC region, Baskin-Robbins has expanded to over 290 cities. By offering a wide range of flavors and using quality ingredients, the brand has managed to penetrate metro cities, tourist destinations, and emerging non-metro markets, making India one of its largest markets globally.
Baskin-Robbins’ approach in India has focused on innovation and consumer adaptability, from introducing unique flavors to expanding its presence through large stores, kiosks, and modern trade channels. Among its firsts were ice cream cakes, pizzas, and bite-sized ice cream “rocks,” catering to the region’s growing demand for diverse dessert offerings. The brand’s signature flavors, including Mississippi Mud and Bavarian Chocolate, sit alongside locally inspired offerings like Gulab Jamun and Caramel Milkcake.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav Ghai, Chairman of Graviss Group noted, "It’s an exciting day for us at Graviss Foods, the master franchisee for Baskin-Robbins in India and in the SAARC region, along with Inspire Brands, as we come together to celebrate the launch of Baskin-Robbins' 1,000th location in the region. This milestone reflects our shared values, deep commitment, and exceptional execution in this market.”
Michael Haley, President and Managing Director of International at Inspire Brands added, “We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion of opening our 1000th location in India. We would like to thank Graviss Foods for being such a strong franchisee in the region for over 30 years, and congratulate them, as well as the Inspire international team, for achieving this accomplishment."
The brand’s success in India has also been tied to its early adoption of online ordering and a loyalty program. This strategy has allowed Baskin-Robbins to engage more closely with Indian consumers while adapting to changing market conditions.
As the brand continues to expand, Vikram Seth, Managing Director of Graviss Foods, emphasized Baskin-Robbins’ role in contributing to India’s growing economy. “As India continues its upward march towards becoming one of the world’s leading economies, Baskin-Robbins is committed to being a part of this journey, contributing to the economy, creating jobs, and delivering happiness to consumers through continuing innovation in our products and services.”
In response to increasing demand, Graviss Group has recently established a new manufacturing facility for Baskin-Robbins in India, further solidifying the brand’s growth trajectory. With the 1000th location now open, Baskin-Robbins is set for further expansion in India’s evolving hospitality market.
