Peninsula Grand Hotel, one of Mumbai’s leading business hotels will usher in Christmas by hosting the traditional cake mixing festival at Peninsula Restaurant at 2pm on 19th November.
Crystal Mendonca, Executive Chef would be guiding the hotel's team and guests to mix an array of ingredients, including raisins, cashewnuts, figs, apricots, mix spice, candied orange and lemon peel, to make the perfect Christmas cake.
Mendonca, said “Christmas is no fun without cake, and baking one is no quick and easy task. Preparations begin months in advance. Our chefs and executives participate in this ritual. We consider it a ritual to usher in the festive season, good tidings, happiness, and a lot of cakes.”
Speaking on the history of cake-mixing ceremony she added that “it dated back to 17th century in Europe. The ceremony marks the arrival of the harvest season. During this time, a lot of fruit and nuts are harvested and used to make the traditional plum cake.”
Shahid Nasim, F&B Manager, said “Festivals break all boundaries and brings people together in celebration. The first step towards making the cake is the mixing process, formally called the cake-mixing ceremony. It is a ritual religiously followed the world over, and is said to be a harbinger of good tidings and happiness.”
