Food safety body FSSAI launches 'Clean Street Food' project

Food Safety and Authority of India (FSSAI) is continuously working to make food safety a regular practice in India.

FSSAI CEO, Pawan Kumar Agarwal, together with food business operators, members of food committee, artists and media today organised an effective open house discussion to bring in more friendly food safety practices.

“We are all sailing under the same boat and are looking for a wholesome food,” shares Agarwal while addressing the audience at the brainstorming session.

Vendors wearing gloves while serving up plates of gol gappas or donning a chef’s hat while stirring spicy Chinese or frying your favourite samosa may soon be a regular sighting to India’ street food culture.

The food safety body is also launching an app tomorrow which will ease them to teach the vendors about the food hygiene and safety and is on mission to ‘Clean Street Food’ in the quest to formalise the unorganised sector and certify those who are not formally skilled.

“There are 34.5 lakh food businesses registered with FSSAI and mostly small ones who need handholding, training and assessment. Endeavours like these will help organize this segment of society and create a natural pull for many others in the league,” added Agarwal.
