Prahlad Kakkar, renowned Ad man and tea aficionado attended the event and shared stories on his love for the beverage. The day was also marked by the unveiling of the first ever automatic fresh tea brewing machine. The machine is unique to the world of tea and is being patented for technology.

International Tea Day has been observed since 2005 in many tea producing countries. The first International Tea Day was celebrated in New Delhi on the 15th December 2005 and has ever since been observed by several countries each year.

“International Tea Day was formerly introduced with the aim of drawing global attention of governments and citizens to the impact of global tea trade on workers, small growers and consumers. The forum has helped many small scale growers and workers to come together and become a collective voice of the industry. Today, we observe this day to continue reminding ourselves that tea is not just the favourite beverage of India but also that there is an entire industry that thrives and livelihoods that sustain because of tea,” said Deepak Jain, Founder and MD, D’lecta Foods Pvt Ltd.

“Even though Tea is lot more subtle and varied than coffee it is losing out to it because the younger generation is adapting to it and it is not promoted sufficiently. Tea is our heritage and should be promoted as the national drink of India,” added Pralhad Kakkar.

India being the second largest producer and biggest consumer of tea after China, is a global lead in this segment and holds fourth place in exports after Kenya, China and Sri Lanka, and together with these nations account for 78 percent of world production and 71 percent of world exports.

Foodpanda celebrates World Heart Day throughout the country

Foodpanda.in, the online food ordering platform has recently conducted a survey to find out which city in India is the healthiest. Through the survey, foodpanda wishes to celebrate the occasion of World Heart Day on 29th September 2014 and also aims to put the limelight on cities which order the healthiest grub round the year.

It also aims to turn the spotlight on the various healthy but delicious gastronomic choices that the patrons of foodpanda have access through its portal. Gurgaon emerged as the most health-conscious metropolis with 20 per cent of its people ordering healthy food on a regular basis. It was followed by Noida (16 per cent), Kolkata and Pune (14 per cent each) and then Mumbai (12 per cent). Delhi was revealed to be the least worried about eating healthy as only a meager 11 percent opted for healthy food from outlets that focused on dishing out meals whose calorific values are low.

Rohit Chadda, MD and Co-Founder, foodpanda.in said, “As the leading online food ordering portal in the country, we wish to inculcate the habit of healthy eating among our patrons on the occasion of World Heart Day. The survey is a step forward to motivate our customers to switch to a healthy lifestyle and lead a salubrious existence.”

Another insight of the survey was that vendors like Subway, Healthy Bites, and Sattviko among others are most preferred by the fitness-conscious lot. The survey was carried out among customers falling under the age group of 20 to 35 years with the ratio of male versus female respondents being 75:25.

World Heart Day is celebrated as a reminder that over 17.3 million people succumb to death every year due to heart disease and stroke. The fast food indulgence of people dwelling in metro cities takes a toll on their lives making them vulnerable to the risk of developing heart disease. The celebration of this day is an initiative taken by foodpanda to make people aware that healthy eating is the mantra to be followed to keep in shape and live a happy life.

foodpanda.in celebrated Cheese Pizza Day on 5th September

Foodpanda.in, India’s largest food ordering online platform celebrated Cheese Pizza Day on 5th September, the portal aims to understand which cities love to chomp on this indulgent treat the most, with which toppings and in what variants.  It has also created an innovative Pizza Price Index to tap the variations in prices for this delectable delight across cities in India.

Today, however, the pizza has become a kind of gourmet offering with the best of international restaurants hosting it on their menus and selling it at rates as high as $2500 with shavings of exotic ingredients like white truffle. In a more common context, the pizza has grown in popularity as a comfort food that one orders with the family over weekends. It is also a favourite food to nibble on at parties with friends or during movie nights.

As far as India is concerned, the Capital emerged as the top aficionado of this much-evolved delight. Maximum orders for pizzas came from the NCR (45 percent) followed by Bangalore (27 percent), Mumbai (8 percent) and Hyderabad (6 percent).  A study of the trends in the last three months revealed that Delhiites love their pizzas with a lot of wholesome veggie toppings. No wonder then that Country Feast and Veggie Lovers pizzas emerged as the clear favourites here.

Mumbaikars seemed to prefer going with the basics as most of them ordered the Classic Margherita. Pizza lovers in Hyderabad sure adore their cheese as the cheese burst pizza was the most oft-ordered variant. Foodies in Bangalore showed a taste for an Indian twist to this European delicacy by ordering the Tandoori Paneer Pizza in maximum numbers.

The Pizza Price Index shows the average price of pizzas across geographies in the country. As per the current prices listed on foodpanda.in, the average price of a pizza is highest in Pune at Rs 480, followed by Gurgaon at Rs 415. In Bangalore, one usually pays about Rs 404 per pizza followed by Rs 380 in Noida and Rs 378 in Mumbai. Delhiites shell out Rs 377 on an average while in Chennai one pays about Rs 367.

To celebrate the day, foodpanda is also launching ‘The Great Indian Pizza Festival’ providing their customers various deals from more than 200 pizza outlets including Papa John's, pizza Hut, Domino's, etc. These Deals range from Buy 1 Get 1 Offers to upto 50 percentage off.
