Tata Starbucks, the joint venture between Starbucks global and the Tata Group, is aiming to achieve break even by FY20.
“The break even is expected for FY 19-20. India, while it presents a tremendous amount of opportunity there are also challenges, “said Navin Gurnaney, CEO, Tata Starbucks.
As per analysts’ reports, the café chain was expected to break even in FY19 but Gurnaney clarified that it will only happen in the next fiscal.
He added that the occupancy costs are not that easy in the country but was proud of what the company could accomplish since it began its journey in 2012.
“We are very proud of having broken even (target of FY19-20) in a very short period of time,” he said adding that international players like Domino’s and McDonald’s had to wait for a decade to get a break even.
He also mentioned that as comparison to the other Asian markets the store profitability is ahead at Tata Starbucks.
The company reportedly had posted a net loss of Rs 30.5 crore in FY18 in India.
Tata Global Beverages in its annual report for FY 17-18 had said Tata Starbucks improved sales by 28 percent with robust in-store performance and new stores added during the year. It had posted Rs 272 crore in sales during FY17. It had added that for the first time since inception, the company recorded a positive Ebitda.
Currently, the coffee chain is operating 136 stores in the country and will finish this year at 144 stores, with additional outlets in the future.
Gurnaney, who took charge last month after replacing Sumitro Ghosh said that the growth is always on their mind. “We have seen that in other Asia Pacific markets, once the market approaches the USD 2000 per capita income point, then it is almost a recognized point of inflection. That’s where the consumption really takes off. It’s a big pie and there is room for everybody to grow,” he added.

Food delivery platform Swiggy has been granted approval by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) following its private submission of draft share sale documents. As per the sources, Swiggy may launch its IPO in November.
With its IPO, Bengaluru-based Swiggy is probably going to raise above $1 billion. Swiggy's IPO was approved by shareholders in April, and the company may aim to raise $15 billion.
Supported by significant investors such as Prosus, SoftBank, and Accel, and with a valuation of $9.3 billion as of August 2023, the firm filed its offer document on April 30 of this year under the confidential pre-filing process, which means that specifics are currently being withheld. Swiggy plans to raise Rs 11,000 crore through a new offering valued at Rs 5,000 crore.
Swiggy is required to make its updated draft red herring prospectus (UDRHP) available to the public for at least 21 days prior to the IPO's release. The public may give comments on the offer document during this period, following which the company may move on with its IPO.
If everything goes according to plan, Swiggy will follow Zomato—which is currently valued at Rs 2.6 trillion and has seen its share price rise 2.3 times this year alone—as the second food delivery company to list on stock exchanges.

This refreshing craft beer is unpasteurized and freshly brewed, being the state’s first microbrewery to sell in cans.
The beer is available in three variants, Hefeweizen (INR 185 for 330ml) the iconic German Wheat Beer, that delivers typical flavors of clove with hints of banana and bubblegum; Indian Lager (INR 175 for 330ml) a light-bodied lager with a slight sweetness from the malt and herbal and floral undertones; Red Gose (INR 250 for 500ml) a beer introduced in the honor of the much-celebrated Manchester United footballer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s historic visit to India.

Alcoholic beverages company, United Spirits has acquired a 15 per cent stake in Inspired Hospitality, the parent company of premium spirit brand, Pistola for Rs 5.65 crore, reported USL in BSE filing on Thursday.
“The Company will subscribe to 3,494 (three thousand four hundred ninety-four) Compulsory Convertible Preference Shares (CCPS) and 10 (ten) equity shares of Pistola, constituting approximately 15.0% of the paid-up share capital of Pistola (on a fully diluted basis),” added the filing.
Founded by brother-sister duo, Rakshay and Radhika Dhariwal, Pistola is engaged in the business of development, marketing and selling of agave spirits.
Pistola doesn't own a bottling unit facility and has contracted with a third party.
With this investment, United Spirits aims to strengthen its position in the premium craft segment, read the filing.
The company further added that upon Pistola achieving certain pre-agreed milestones within a defined time period, United Spirits may acquire the remaining shares held by other shareholders.
Founded in 2010, Pistola positions itself among emerging premium agave brands in India. The brand started the commercial operations of its agave spirits business in December 2021.
It is also available across the USA, Singapore and Thailand.
