In order to boost Prime membership plan, Amazon looks to buy Uber Eats' India business

Amazon India is in early discussions to acquire Uber Eats India, the food delivery platform by the global ride-hailing firm Uber. With this, the e-commerce major is keen on entering the food delivery business in India.

A source said, “People order almost daily from a Zomato or a Swiggy. These apps enjoy immense client stickability. Amazon believes this could be a great add-on to its membership plan.”

Amazon expects food delivery to make users use the Prime app more frequently than fashion, electronics and groceries. The company believes that adding a vertical of food delivery will result in more daily users and increase the number of transactions to the Prime membership plan, which has around 10 million users.

The company has been making efforts to push its Prime membership in the country.
