Tasmac To Open Premium Outlet At Chennai Airport

Travellers landing at Chennai airport will soon be able to pick up a liquor bottle as they exit from the domestic terminal where Tasmac is planning to open its elite shops at the arrival terminal.

There is also a move to have similar shops at Trichy, Madurai and Coimbatore airports. The move comes after liquor outlets at Mumbai and Delhi airports were found to be popular among travellers.

Tasmac officials held discussions with Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials regarding the space and the fee that needs to be paid for setting up the facility.

A senior official of AAI said “Similar outlets are popular in Mumbai and Delhi. There was feedback from travellers about need for a shop at the airport. There is a duty free outlet at the departure terminal but arriving passengers do not have a facility. There have been many instances in which we have received inquiries from people looking for a liquor retail shop at the domestic arrival terminal”.

On overcharging by Tasmac shops, the official said the elite shops would not indulge in such practices. Buyers, however, said elite shops including the ones in some malls have been overcharging.
