Mobile retailer BIG C eyeing 300 outlets by March 2021

BIG C Mobiles Pvt Ltd is planning to increase its number of stores to 300 by March 2021. Currently, the Hyderabad-based multi-brand mobile retail chain has 225 stores in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Naidu.

For this expansion plan, the company will invest between Rs 40-50 crore.

Balu Chowdary, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, BIG C, said, “Out of 225 stores, 60 were in Hyderabad alone. We were planning to establish 75 more stores by next year and in the second phase of expansion would see our foray into Karnataka in next year.”

BIG C Mobiles also aims to launch 25 big showrooms in Hyderabad alone soon.

At present, the firm exits in 69 towns in both Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while 12 towns in Tamil Nadu.

“With this expansion, the manpower would scale up to 3000 by 2021 end against the current strength of 2,250,” Chowdary added.

Entered e-commerce space

Apart from this, BIG C Mobiles has just forayed into the e-commerce business by introducing sales on its website and on the mobile app.

Chowdhary stated, “We have a presence in about 70 towns and cities in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We are offering a 90-minute delivery in these cities.”

“We have 200 stores in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and 24 in Tamil Nadu. Most of our new outlets will come in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka,” he further added.

Business Growth

BIG C Mobiles is eyeing to close 2019-20 with a turnover of up to Rs 1,200 crore. It is further targeting a turnover of Rs 1,500 crore in 2020-21.

The company registered a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore in 2018-19.

Chowdhary said, “All these years we have been selling mobile phones in our stores. We are going to sell smart TVs and the Internet of Things devices too. This will propel our sales next year.”
