Coco Ichibanya opens first Indian outlet at Cyberhub, Gurgaon

Restaurant business is widely hit by the novel coronavirus. But despite all the challenges we have seen many restaurants opening its door for the customers.

Japanese curry chain Coco Ichibanya which was scheduled for India opening during the first quarter of the year, has now opened its first outlet in India on 3rd August.

Located at Cyberhub, Gurgaon, Ichibanya India is a joint venture between Mitsui (60% equity share) and ICHIBANYA Co. Ltd. (40% equity share).

This partnership marks Mitsui’s entry into the restaurant business in India after a long-standing presence in the country with a diversified portfolio of businesses in the industrial and consumer sectors.

“We aim at opening company-owned and franchised restaurants with the aim of building a chain of 30 outlets across the country in the next 10 years,’ shared Prasenjit Adhikari, CEO, Ichibanya India Private Ltd who is looking to open several outlets in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

Known as world’s best curry house, Coco Ichibanya serves a mix of vegetarians and non-vegetarians curries served with Japanese sticky rice to maintain authenticity. The restaurant also has ‘make your own curry’ options for customers who want to customize their meal.

Started in 1978, it opened its first restaurant in Aichi prefecture. Today, they are operating around 1,297 restaurants in Japan and 185 outlets across the US, UK, China, and Southeast Asia.

The restaurant was certified as the world’s largest restaurant curry chain by Guinness World Records in 2013.
