Restaurants, Eateries in Gujarat To Remain Open 24 Hours

Restaurants, eateries and shops will soon be able to operate 24 hours soon. Gujarat government has announced the amendment of the law that imposes time restrictions on the eateries and shops in the state.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani-led cabinet approved the amendments to the Gujarat Shops and Establishments Act of 1948. The Act restricts entities like shops and restaurants from operating between 12 am-6 am.

“As a step towards promoting ease of doing business in the state, we have decided to amend this Act so that these units can remain open 24 hours,” said Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. The move will generate more employment as the entities will hire people for night shifts. However, the Deputy Chief Minister clarified that women will not be hired for night shifts at the shops, restaurants and other business entities.

“The cabinet approved an amendment to the Gujarat Shops and Establishments Act and a Bill for this will be tabled in the Assembly Session that begins on February 18. Some 7 lakh businesses will benefit from this move. The change will boost employment, as more workers will be needed to run the businesses,” the Deputy CM added.
