Zomato registers 45% surge in order volumes on NY Eve, Swiggy witnesses 112k+ users live on its app

New Year’s eve has always come stronger for food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy when it comes to hitting good sales number. And, the same happened this year when rivals Swiggy and Zomato recorded a massive surge in the delivery orders on 31st December.

Sharing a Tweet, Sriharsha Majety, Co- Founder & CEO, Swiggy posted, “112k+users live on the app right now (8:07 Pm, 31st Dec). Happy to see Swiggy’s mission of delivering unparalleled convenience coming to life.”

Before the above tweet he also made an announcement at 6 Pm in the evening informing that the food delivery platform has already delivered over 1.3 million orders and counting. And, asking customers to order early to beat the rush.

Similarly, Deepinder Goyal, CEO, Zomato requested customers to order in early to avoid the year-end rush and cautioned against a potential crash in its servers.

“We have touched last year's OPM already! Folks, please order now to avoid last minute rush, and potential server FUs,” he shared in a tweet.

In a separate tweet about the order volumes on New Year's Eve, he mentioned, “45% up since last year, so far!! Seems like we will hit crazy milestones today. IF we manage to stay alive. Nervous AF.”

On December 31, 2021, Zomato had delivered over 2 million orders.

Goyal in a first move also stepped out to deliver few orders of which one was for an elderly couple who were celebrating New Year with their grandchildren.

“16,514 biryanis (roughly 15 tonne that is?) on the way to where they belong right now. Big thank you to our beloved delivery partners for bringing delight to India's beautiful people.”

Meanwhile, Albinder Dhindsa, the CEO of Zomato-owned quick commerce platform Blinkit, said that as of 5.45 pm on December 31, some in Bengaluru had placed the biggest party order worth Rs 28,962.
