Muttiah Muralitharan Invests Rs 1,400 cr in Beverage and Confectionery Manufacturing

Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is set to embark on a significant investment journey in the beverages and confectionery sectors in Badanaguppe, Chamarajanagar district. According to Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil, Muralitharan plans to establish manufacturing units under the brand 'Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries'.

Initially slated for an investment of Rs 230 crore, the project has now been revised to a total of Rs 1,000 crore, with future plans to scale up to Rs 1,400 crore over the coming years. Minister Patil shared that 46 acres have already been allocated for the project, with manufacturing operations expected to commence by January 2025. He also assured that efforts are underway to resolve any minor land allocation issues promptly.

Highlighting Muralitharan's ambitious expansion plans, Patil mentioned that the cricketer-turned-entrepreneur intends to establish another manufacturing unit in Dharwad shortly. This initiative is expected to bolster employment opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Before joining Sheraton, he was part of the Sales and Marketing team at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, where he contributed to setting new performance benchmarks.

In his new role as Director of Sales, Swapnil will oversee the hotel’s sales operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and developing initiatives to enhance brand visibility and commercial performance. His leadership is expected to help Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield increase its market share and reinforce its standing in the hospitality sector.

As Navi Mumbai prepares to host the much-awaited Coldplay concert in January 2025, the hospitality sector in India is witnessing a sharp rise in hotel prices. A recent study by Sciative Solutions, a leader in AI-driven dynamic pricing and revenue management, reveals significant pricing adjustments across various hotel categories in response to the high demand.  

The report compared hotel rates from September 2024, a regular month, with January 2025, when the concert is scheduled. Budget accommodations priced between Rs 3,000 and Rs 6,000 experienced a decline in availability, with most rooms in this category sold out. Mid-range hotels, priced at Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000, saw rates doubling, while accommodations in the Rs 9,000 to Rs 15,000 range recorded a threefold increase. Luxury properties reported the most significant surge, with prices rising over five times their regular rates.  

Hotels within a 7 km radius of the concert venue recorded the steepest price hikes, with rates tripling compared to standard levels. Properties located farther away experienced more modest increases. The peak in pricing occurred on concert days, particularly on January 18, 2025, when room rates surged more than two-and-a-half times compared to the previous week.  

Four- and five-star hotels in Navi Mumbai faced high early demand, with many selling out as early as September 2024. This early sell-out led to missed opportunities for these properties to adjust rates further for last-minute bookings, which could have maximized their revenue.

Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture Department, Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, shared updates on the Safe Tourism Destination project, which provides self-defense and skill training to 40,000 women across 50 tourist destinations. Additionally, 10,000 women are receiving specialized training in tourism and hospitality, with future plans to establish hotels operated entirely by differently-abled individuals.  

The event concluded with a film screening showcasing the achievements of the Safe Tourism Destination project and a traditional Bundelkhandi folk dance dedicated to Mother Durga. Senior officials, including Managing Director Dr. Ilayya Raja T and Collector Smt. Sonia Meena, were also present at the occasion.

Ventive Hospitality Limited, formerly known as ICC Realty (India) Private Limited, has secured approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for its initial public offering (IPO). The company, which focuses on luxury offerings across business and leisure segments, plans to issue equity shares with a face value of Rs 1 each, with the total offer size of up to Rs 2,000 crore.

Ventive Hospitality was founded as the hospitality division of Panchshil Realty, a real estate conglomerate based in Pune. In 2017, BRE Asia (formerly Xander Investment Holding XVI Limited), an affiliate of Blackstone, acquired a 50 percent stake in the company, making it a joint venture. 

The company owns and operates luxury hospitality assets across India and the Maldives, with properties managed by global operators such as Marriott, Hilton, Minor, and Atmosphere. Its portfolio includes 11 operational assets with 2,036 keys as of March 31, 2024, a significant increase from just 83 keys in 2007. Key assets include JW Marriott Pune, The Ritz-Carlton Pune, Conrad Maldives, Anantara Maldives, and Raaya by Atmosphere Maldives.

Ventive Hospitality has expanded its footprint by developing and acquiring properties in new regions, including Bengaluru, Varanasi, and the Maldives. As of March 31, 2024, the portfolio consists of seven hospitality assets with 1,331 keys developed by the company, and four assets with 705 keys acquired. Since 2019, the company has added 1,070 keys, which make up over 50 percent of the total portfolio.

The company’s luxury hospitality assets have contributed over 80 percent of its pro forma revenue from hotel operations in FY24, FY23, and FY22. In terms of revenue and EBITDA, Ventive Hospitality ranked among the top listed hospitality asset owners in India during this period.

Ventive believes it is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for hospitality in key markets, including India and the Maldives. The company plans to expand its portfolio by 367 keys, or 18.02 percent, by FY2028 through new development projects in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Bengaluru, Karnataka, and Sri Lanka.

The IPO will be managed by JM Financial Limited, Axis Capital Limited, HSBC Securities and Capital Markets (India) Private Limited, ICICI Securities Limited, IIFL Securities Limited, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company Limited, and SBI Capital Markets Limited.

The 67-room property at Kota, The Eco (Satva), Kota, is scheduled to open by December 15. Located opposite Oxy Park, this hotel will feature a rooftop restaurant, GGs, which has already garnered attention locally. Additionally, EcoXpress (Satva), a 44-room property in Nagpur, is also set to commence operations in December and will include a dancefloor called Kick in the Brick and another rooftop dining option under the GGs brand.  

The company is also preparing for the March 2025 launch of The Eco (Satva), Baroda. Meanwhile, its Mysore property, spanning 2.5 acres and featuring 90 rooms, will incorporate a high-end wellness center. The restaurant chain SAHAR, specializing in vegetarian food based on Jain food philosophy, is part of the company's strategy to offer diverse and sustainable dining options.  

Eco Hotels is embracing advanced construction methods to accelerate its growth. Using 3D volumetric construction technology under its EBOT model, the company plans to build 100-room hotels within 24 weeks. The first of these is slated for Ayodhya, with discussions already underway. The group has also signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government to establish 10 hotels in the state. These properties aim to achieve net carbon zero standards, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Earlier in his career, as Director of Rooms at Hyatt Regency Kolkata, Singh led key departments such as Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Business Centre, and Spa/Health Club. His leadership resulted in streamlined operations and improved revenue performance while maintaining high service standards.

Bianchi’s cooking philosophy combines Italian tradition with innovation, using local ingredients and sophisticated plating techniques. Dishes like the “Caprese Cloud,” featuring whipped buffalo mozzarella with roasted cherry tomatoes and fresh basil, reflect his ability to blend simple flavors with contemporary presentations. IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced a management agreement with Aaraki Hotels and Resorts to launch the Holiday Inn Resort Dharamshala, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2027. The resort will add 150 rooms to IHG’s portfolio, further strengthening its footprint in the region’s retail and travel sectors.  

Situated in the Himalayan town of Dharamshala, at an altitude of approximately 5,000 feet, the resort is expected to attract both domestic and international travelers. Dharamshala is known for its scenic views, temperate climate, and spiritual significance as the residence of the Dalai Lama. The destination is also recognized for its cricket stadium and inclusion in India’s Smart Cities initiative, highlighting its potential for sustainable tourism and urban development.  

The resort will feature a variety of facilities, including standard rooms and suites, an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a lobby lounge, a fitness center, retail outlets, and a resort center. For events and gatherings, the hotel will offer meeting spaces, including a grand ballroom. Additionally, the introduction of the Open Lobby concept will reimagine the traditional hotel lobby into a multifunctional space designed for work, dining, and relaxation.

We, being the category leaders with 1,200 keys (rooms) at various stages of construction, is a huge pull for the investors. Our first phase of 62 rooms will be launched in the next six months in Pushkar. The overall keys in Pushkar stand at 112, with the next phase to be launched by the end of next year. Our present projects are expected to be delivered by 2028. The construction is in full swing at all our seven properties across the globe. Fine Acers projects are creating a niche and new investment opportunity for new-age investors who understand the importance of balancing life with work and leisure."  

Fine Acers’ sale-lease-back model offers investors a 7 percent return from the beginning of their investment, with potential increases once the properties become profitable. Club Med and Mandai X Partner on New Family Conservation Experience
 

Club Med has partnered with Mandai X to introduce the Ranger Buddies program, an interactive family-focused initiative that combines environmental education with engaging activities. Set at Club Med Bintan, this program is designed to immerse families in conservation efforts through a blend of augmented reality (AR) and in-person exploration from 16 November 2024 to 5 January 2025.

The Ranger Buddies program invites young guests to join “missions” with Coco the tortoise, learning about ocean conservation and protecting endangered marine life through the Mini Club Med+ program. Children participate in hands-on, interactive tasks, turning sustainability into a memorable adventure that encourages eco-awareness.

In addition to the missions, families can also enjoy the Amazing Family program, which offers curated activities aimed at strengthening family bonds and fostering environmental awareness. Through dedicated family sessions and the Mini Club Med+, guests are guided in exploring conservation themes together, making environmental education an enjoyable family experience.

The program also includes access to the Magic Valley app, an interactive platform that transforms learning about environmental issues into a storytelling experience for children. The app provides a digital journey into sustainability, encouraging kids to engage with conservation topics in an approachable way.

As part of its commitment to family-focused, educational experiences, Club Med continues to develop programs that promote key life skills. The Ranger Buddies initiative follows the C.O.U.R.A.G.E. framework, emphasizing creativity, cooperation, and resilience among young participants, fostering skills that align with Club Med’s longstanding mission of offering meaningful, all-inclusive vacations.

Ashish Jakhanwala, Chairman and MD of SAMHI Hotels stated, “The results for Q2 and H1 FY25 reflect our continued commitment to expanding inventory, driving strong revenue growth, and delivering robust EB/TOA performance. The integration of AC/C is progressing smoothly, contributing to a significant margin improvement of approximately 590 basis points in Q2 FY25 compared to H1 FY24 (pre-acquisition).

SAMHI’s occupancy rate reached 75 percent in Q2, an increase from 72 percent in the same period last year, driven by demand growth in core markets. The company also recently signed a long-term variable lease in Hyderabad’s Hitec City, part of its strategic focus on expanding long-term lease assets to optimize capital efficiency and secure higher risk-adjusted returns.

Recent transactions in Bangalore’s Whitefield and Hyderabad’s Hitec City are expected to significantly expand SAMHI’s upscale and upper-upscale inventory. This expansion supports the company’s broader goal of increasing its market presence and enhancing its portfolio with premium assets in high-demand office markets.

Jakhanwala expressed, “We remain focused on near-term growth driven by strong demand for our existing assets, the strategic re-rating of portions of our portfolio following renovation and rebranding efforts, the addition of new inventory, and continued M&A activity.

Q2 FY25 Key Highlights:

  • RevPAR reached Rs. 4,529, marking a 16.5 percent YoY increase due to steady demand in key markets.
