Sunar Jewels, embracing rich heritage and contemporary styles

Indian gems and jewellery market has always been fast-growing segment of Indian retail landscape. In this race where traditional retail plays a very crucial role is driving the economy, Sunar Jewels sees a lot of opportunities and possibilities, especially in tier II and III markets. With its standalone store at Karol Bagh, New Delhi, Sunar Jewels has gained a remarkable grip in a very less time said Praveen Goel, CMD, Sunar Jewels to Retailer.

Talk to us about Sunar’s journey so far and the milestones you have achieved?

It has been an overwhelming journey for us, where we have been blessed to have established ourselves as a distinct name and won the trust of buyers, which has been our most important achievement. We were determined to sail against the tide, and wanted to offer something which would not only capture a buyer’s attention but also their heart.

What makes Sunar a class above its competition?

Of course our exquisite and beautiful jewellery has played a major role in setting us apart from others in the industry, having said that, our policies regarding customer interaction as well as post sales services go a long way in giving us that edge.

Talk to us about your expansion plans. Do you plan to open store in any other location apart from Delhi in the coming years?

Yes, we believe in growth and have plans of expansion. We are targeting tier 2 cities as we feel there is an untapped and unexplored market there which has many possibilities, as well can bring out the best of our potential.

Talk to us about the roadblocks faced in the initial days?

Every startup faces roadblocks; however the only way forward is to take it in stride and move ahead. We have learnt and continue to learn a lot from sudden hurdles, but we choose not to dwell on it but make it into a learning experience.

Why don’t you sell online? Do you have plans for the same in the future?

We are in fact planning to go online soon in the near future.

Customers avoid purchasing from stores because of the high making charges they ask for. How do you tackle this?

Well, there is nothing for us to tackle here, as our making charges are transparent and nominal, and that is one of the primary reasons why our customers keep coming back to us.

Do you think the unorganized Jewellery market is a threat to a brand like yours?

There will always be threats from every angle, whether it is a jewellery business or some other, we can’t really stop to think about that. Instead of paying attention to who or what is a possible threat, we always aim and strive to do great work so that everyone knows our brand for what it is.

What is the market size and where do see yourself 3-5 years down the line

Well, the market size can be never really be accurately quantified. However, what we do know and can vouch for is that we see ourselves doing good work by creating the best in the jewellery business, with a very happy and satisfied customer base. The satisfaction of our buyers is our greatest reward, and in that happiness resides our success.
