Amazon India doubles seller base in under a year

E-commerce major, Amazon India said that it has doubled its seller base in India in less than a year. The company which started operation in India 4 years back achieved a milestone of having 2 lakh sellers in less than a year after it reached a milestone of 1 lakh seller in July 2016.

According to Amazon, "This fast pace of adoption of the Amazon India marketplace by retailers-online and offline as well as first generation digital entrepreneurs has come on the back of various India-first innovations like feet on street teams, self-service registration, Chai Cart and Tatkal that helped take this digital opportunity to lakhs of SMEs in Tier II and III geographies."

It added that partnerships with several national and state government bodies is helping unlock this online opportunity for thousands of Indian artisans, weavers and craftsmen in the country.
