India-based steel maker Tata Steel has opened steel retail store ‘steeljunction’ in a new avatar in Kolkata, West Bengal. This is the country’s first organized steel retail store.
Tata Steel intends to create a new concept in steel retailing for the business-to-consumer sector. The new store will serve as a one-stop-shop for shopping steel products.
steeljunction will be offering steel products for four consumer segments like Home Décor & Gifting, Home Building, Home Making, and Tools & Implements. It will feature premium branded products of Tata Steel including Tata Tiscon, Tata Pravesh, Tata Wiron, Tata Colour, Tata Agrico and DurDurashine.
TV Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel, said, “Steeljunction is integral to our strategic focus on the retail segment. It is aimed at providing a differentiated steel purchase experience to discerning customers. Steel is the most sustainable metal with diverse applications. This initiative will give a fillip to the consumption of steel as products will be made available from more accessible locations.”
Peeyush Gupta, Vice President - Steel (Marketing & Sales), Tata Steel, added, “With Tata Steel’s foray into digital, steeljunction offers physical store support in deliveries and order management.”
ISSDA has demanded doubling the import duty on these to 10 per cent in the upcoming budget to safeguard interests of domestic industry.
Last week, India had submitted to the WTO a revised list of 30 items on which it proposed to raise customs duties by up to 50 per cent.
Shyam Steel has played a key role in transforming steel selling from a commodity model to a brand marketing model. Its TMT brand enjoys a very high recall among consumers.
The company plans to undertake investments of around Rs 2,500 crore in brownfield and greenfield projects to expand its production capacity.
