Whirlpool India hopes to increase market share with new launches in 2017

Home appliances maker, Whirlpool India is expecting sales to grow better than 15% it did in the previous year. The company hopes to increase its share in the market with more launches in the current year.

Sunil A D’Souza, Managing Director, Whirlpool of India Ltd, said, "Last year despite the adverse impact of demonetisation in December, we were able to maintain a robust growth. This year we expect better performance with more disposable income with people, good monsoon and rollout of GDP."

The company achieved a turnover of Rs 4400 crore in 2016-17.

He said the company is among the top three players in refrigerators and washing machines in the country, strong in premium and mass segments.

The company has started its new launches from Kerala, where it introduced new refrigerator and washing machine models for the first time in the country.

He said, "Kerala and Tamil Nadu are our strong markets and we are the top player in single door refrigerator and semi-automatic washing machine in Kerala."

D'Souza added that he anticipated 25% increase in sales during Onam season year-on-year.

Though 85% of the revenue of the company comes from refrigerator and washing machines, the company will expand its focus to other categories of appliances like air conditioners and water purifiers with new launches during the year.
