Amazon infuses over Rs 4,400 cr in its Indian subsidiaries

Amazon Inc. has invested Rs 4,472 crore into its Indian subsidiaries, including its online marketplace arm ‘Amazon Seller Services’, its payments platform ‘Amazon Pay’, and ‘Amazon Retail’.

The global e-commerce giant has infused Rs 3,400 crore in Amazon Seller Services, Rs 900 crore in Amazon Pay (India), and Rs 172.50 crore in Amazon Retail India.

Prior to the latest investment, Amazon Seller Services had received Rs 2,800 crore in the first nine months of the current calendar year.

The latest infusion brings the company’s investment in Amazon Seller Services this year to Rs 6,200 crore, which is still lower than the Rs 9,450 crore it pumped into the unit in 2018.

The development comes after Amazon posted a 9% drop in losses from its main Indian marketplace unit in the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2019.
