Republic-Day revenues through sales
Republic-Day revenues through sales

Republic Day is here again and retailers like Future Group’s Big Bazaar, Reliance Retail, Spencers, Vishal Retail, are ready with bouquet of options to delight the consumers. Big Bazaar, a part of the Future Group conceptualised the idea of ‘Sabse Sasta Din’ first on 26th January, 2006. Today, almost every retail company irrespective of its size and category of products are celebrating the ‘Day’ by offering special discount schemes and offers on merchandise.

Creating a win-win situation
Shopping festivals are generally organised after conducting a thorough study of shopping behaviours of the consumers during specific occasions. The merchandise for such occasions is planned as per the requirements of the consumers, to ensure value for money and by encouraging additional purchases leading to an increased average bill cost. The shopping festivals observed by the retailers during special days create a win-win situation for both the consumers and the retailers.

Special celebration
This year Big Bazaar is celebrating the fifth ‘Sabse Sasta Din’ by organising Sabse Saste 4 Din, from Saturday 23rd to Tuesday 26th January, so that shoppers can take maximum advantage of the great offers. Elaborating on the event Sadashiv Nayak, President, Big Bazaar, said, “Big Bazaar started this campaign on January 26, 2006 with 24 stores, followed by 43 stores next year and over 80 stores last year. We have seen unbelievable sales like 80,000 DVDs, 175,000 shirts; 37,000 jeans; 36,000 sarees; 22,000 food combos. Last year Sabse Saste 3 Din attracted more than 55 lakh customers. As the name suggests, Sabse Saste 4 Din will be the most economical four days of shopping at Big Bazaar and we look forward to it being yet another successful Shopping Bonanza.”

As per Nayak, “This year, over 50 lakh customers are expected to flock to the stores to avail offers on a wide range of products available across categories like fashion, food, electronics, home needs, furniture and much more as a part of this four-day event.”

Monginis Food Pvt. Ltd having 480 exclusive Cake Shops in India takes a pleasure to celebrate colours of India. For this occasion of national pride, Monginis has introduced special Triple Trifle Cake only in outlets across Mumbai.

V Mart is also a part of this celebration. Speaking on the same Lalit Agrawal, MD, V Mart Retail informs, “This Republic Day we are giving special discount of flat 50 per cent off on winter wear and also you will get 20 per cent discount on all gents, ladies, kids wear and home accessories.”

Cantabil, the renowned Indian brand to introduce the concept of Italian fashion in India is giving the fabulous discount of 80 per cent flat discount on this Republic Day.

Koutons Retail has introduced a special offer to commemorate India’s sixty first Republic Day as well. A flat 80 per cent discount is being offered on all the brands that fall under the Koutons umbrella.

Price wars
No Doubt, discounts and special offers are of a great benefit for retailers but no one can deny the fact that these discount schemes have led to price wars between some of the retail companies. This is especially true in case of durables, electronics and even clothes.

Dealing huge footfall
Agreed that the special discount creates a win-win situation for both retailers and consumers but handling a crowded outlet on such occasions itself is a task for the retailers.

If we study the figures defining the quantum of people who visited retail outlets last year, the response would be awesome. When asked about the security and shopping experience of the people, the retailers ensured a smooth and trouble free shopping experience with more billing counters, sitting arrangements, additional security arrangement, crowd control measures, drinking water and first aid facilities. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and grab the offers that the retailers have to offer!
