Delhi Restaurateurs welcome LG's decision, says 24x7 biz operation will boost revenue, generate employment

After Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) V K Saxena has approved a proposal to allow 314 establishments to run their businesses on a 24x7 basis in the national Capital including restaurants and bars, restaurateurs across city is welcoming the move.

According to the officials, over 300 establishments ranging from hotels, restaurants, eateries to online delivery services of food, medicines, logistics and other essential commodities, transport and travel services, apart from KPOs and BPOs will soon be able to run their businesses on a 24x7 basis in Delhi.

“It will be great move for our industry. More working hours will benefit both the sides of business- restauranteur and customers both.  Operational 24 hours increases job opportunities for people involved, revenues. Though the policy is yet not clear but we are really looking forward for the same,” shared Sharad Madan, Founder, Khubani.

The LG has directed that a notification to this effect be issued within seven days, shared media reports.

“The decision, providing exemption under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the Delhi Shops & Establishment Act, 1954, is expected to boost employment generation and promote a positive and a favourable business environment that are a prerequisite for economic growth. The decision will also provide fillip to the much desired ‘night life’ in the city. Exemptions under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the said Act enables commercial establishments to operate on a 24X7 basis, subject to certain conditions that entails welfare of labour and security etc.,” shared an official.

Commenting on the same, Vikrant Batra, Co-Founder, Dhansoo Cafe, Delhi & Gurgaon said, “This is a great move by the LG. This is something that is required in Delhi. We are still waiting for more clarity on the technical aspects & then shall decide what needs to be done next.”

Though, there is no denying that this will create more opportunities for businesses to grow and would generate employment and revenue for both Govt and establishments, restaurateur like Amit Bagga of Daryaganj believed that people should wait and watch on the response of Delhi police on the same.

“It will be a pleasant move for the business and will bring the city to an international level. It will attract more tourists and enhance revenue for all shops and establishments. The norm usually followed abroad if gets implemented in India will also attract lot of tourists and will surely take Delhi nightlife to level above,” added Akshay Anand, co-founder, Ophelia, Cosy Box and Toy Room.
