The brand remains committed to their craft, eschewing artificial colorings, flavors, and sweeteners. Instead, they opt for the freshest strawberries sourced from Mahabaleshwar.

Pernod Ricard India's Sales Up 4% in H1 FY24
Pernod Ricard India's Sales Up 4% in H1 FY24

Pernod Ricard is the French spirits manufacturer has announced a 4% increase in sales in India during the initial six months of the ongoing fiscal year.

Operating on a fiscal year from July to June, the company attributes this growth to robust demand for spirits in the Indian market, as stated in their recent earnings report.

Furthermore, Pernod Ricard anticipates significant growth in the second half of the fiscal year (January to June 2024) from India, which stands as the second-largest market worldwide for the company, trailing only behind the US.

The company noted that its global brands such as Jameson, Absolut, and The Glenlivet experienced notable growth in the Indian market during the specified period.

Additionally, Pernod Ricard stated that its Indian whisky lineup under the Seagram's brand, which comprises IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) labels like Blenders Pride, Imperial Blue, and Royal Stag, achieved sales growth exceeding 4%.

The earnings statement indicated that the company experienced a boost in net sales during Q2 compared to a period with more relaxed comparables.

However, on a global scale, Pernod Ricard's sales for the first half of FY24 amounted to 6.59 billion euros, marking a 7% decline. Organic sales also decreased by 3%.

In the initial half of FY24, the Indian market accounted for 11% of Pernod Ricard's global net sales, securing its position as the second-largest contributor, trailing behind the US, which contributed 19%.

Pernod Ricard's premium product range led to single-digit price increases across all regions, although this was mitigated by decreased volumes and an unfavorable market mix.

Pernod Ricard's extensive global portfolio encompasses more than 200 high-quality brands, which include renowned names such as 100 Pipers, Chivas Regal, The Glenlivet, Absolut, Havana Club, and Jacob's Creek.

Additionally, Pernod Ricard possesses Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) labels like Blenders Pride, Imperial Blue, and Royal Stag.

Pernod Ricard's Indian subsidiary has surpassed the milestone of Rs 25,000 crore in sales.

Pernod Ricard India recorded a combined revenue of Rs 25,039.47 crore from its activities during the fiscal year concluding on March 31, 2023.

During an interview last December, Jean Touboul, the Managing Director of Pernod Ricard India, expressed his anticipation that India will ascend to a leadership position within the next 10 to 15 years, supplanting the US market.

This optimism is rooted in India's rapid domestic market growth outpacing that of other markets.

The company anticipates that the Indian market will triple its sales within the next decade.

This growth is forecasted to be driven by favorable macroeconomic conditions, a highly advantageous demographic profile, and an increasing trend towards premiumization in both Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and imported brands. Touboul emphasized these factors as key drivers of growth.

Nao Spirits Launches "Pipa - Rum de Goa", A Spiced Rum from Goa

Nao Spirits, India’s pioneering Craft Gin distillers, has recently launched, "Pipa – Rum de Goa," a premium spiced rum that pays a heartfelt homage to the 450 years of cultural co-habitation between the Portuguese and local communities in Goa.

Derived from the Portuguese word for barrel, "Pipa" – this rum captures the essence of a seamless fusion between local flavours and Portuguese influences.

“We set the ball rolling in 2017 with the Craft Gin category, witnessing a premium growth from a 12,000-case industry to over 320,000 cases in just 5 years. Expecting sustained growth in the Gin sector, we’ve finally decided to venture into the eagerly awaited premium Rum category to showcase our understanding of craft spirits and local spices. After four years of refining the recipe and packaging, we are absolutely delighted with the results and cannot wait to share them with the expanding community of Craft Rum drinkers in the country,” shared Anand Virmani, Nao Spirits' co-founder and CEO.

Made in Goa, the body of this rum comes from Jaggery spirit undergoes distillation, and then matures for a full year in Ruby Port Wine casks imported from Portugal. As an ode to the three main spices that first drew Portuguese explorers to the Malabar Coast, the heart of this rum lies in the delicate blend of spices used to finish it - Black Pepper, Cinnamon, and Clove.

The decision to produce rum in India, the world's leading sugarcane producer, was an intuitive choice, showcasing the country's immense potential in crafting distinctive spirits.

India has long been a brown spirits market, holding 97% of the enormous spirits segment, with a whopping 12.5% contribution from rum. While the majority of this segment lies in the mass-produced value segment, the real excitement comes from the Standard and Premium Segments, which are slated to grow at a CAGR of 46.5% and 21.1%, respectively, between 2022 and 2027, according to IWSR.

Launched exclusively in the Goa market, Pipa stands as a testament to Nao Spirits' commitment to quality and heritage.

Gurgaon based startup, Radiohead Brands, makers of the category leading brand Jimmy’s®, announced closure of their Pre Series A round at 35cr, led by Prath Ventures, Capital Ventures and Illeyrium Ventures.

The round also saw participation from prominent angel investors like Neel Bahl, Sandeep Aggarwal of Droop (ex Shop Clues). Existing investors also participated in the round.

Recently the company had announced its transformation into a multi-beverage brands company, broadening its offerings beyond Jimmy’s® Cocktails and Sparkling Mixers. As part of this expansion, the company has recently introduced ‘Hustle’ Energy drink, conceived with a view to disrupt the fast growing Energy Drinks category. This strategic portfolio expansion reflects the brand's vision to build the premium beverage category in India and its commitment to deliver exceptional taste and unrivaled drinking experiences to a broader audience.

Founded by Ankur Bhatia & Nitin Bhardwaj in 2019, its first brand Jimmy’s® claims to have moved ahead of all other start-ups competing in the same space, having served over 12 million drinks in FY’23. It now plans to use its deep category experience, already established route to market and unique ability to build brands fast and frugal to dominate the premium energy drinks segment.

“I want to welcome our new investors and thank our existing investors for their continued faith in us. For this round we had very high interest from prominent VCs ranging from $8M - $10M however we weren’t able to accept that as we do not believe in a high burn high growth business model. We have an eclectic mix of people on our cap table who like us, believe in a sustainable and profitable approach to building our brands,” shared Bhatia.

Radiohead Brands had raised ₹14cr in March 2022 in a funding round led by Roots Ventures as part of their Pre Series A. To launch their new Energy Drink it extended its Pre Series A for another ₹20cr which it did in two parts the first one in June 2023 and the most recent now.

The company plans to enter several new categories in open white spaces still untapped by the beverage majors over the next few years and has an ambition to reach ₹100 crore revenue run-rate by next year building to a ₹1000 crore revenue company within the decade.

Speaking about the investment, Piyush Goenka, Founder, Prath Ventures said, “Radiohead Brands is our play on the high-growth premium beverages segment in India. Ankur and Nitin are the best team to build in this market with a strong understanding of brand building and distribution. The company’s products under Jimmy's brand have huge customer love and are well accepted by the trade. They have now entered the rapidly expanding market of Energy drinks through the introduction of Hustle Energy drink. We believe the company is set to emerge as a leading premium beverage player in a few years with a diversified portfolio of brands and products.”
