GSTN receives ten thousand calls per day, says Chairman Naveen Kumar

Following the successful rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the GST Network (GSTN) has been receiving an average of 10000 calls per day from traders and tax payers to clear their confusion and help them adapt to the new tax regime.

Navin Kumar, Chairman, GSTN, told ANI, "Our call centre executives are answering all queries and helping all to get used to GST. This call centre is operating from Noida and team of around 400 executives is handling those calls."

After the rollout of the GST on July 1, the GSTN has taken over from the Ministry of Finance.

The GSTN opened registrations for two new services, namely Input Service Distributor (ISD) and application to opt in for the Composition Scheme. So far, the network has received 3.5 lakh applications for enrollment, out of which 45000 have been registered till Wednesday.

Kumar said, "If the tax authorities don't have any queries against the application, their registration is deemed to be approved within three days."

On the GST Suvidha Providers (GSP) front, the committee is looking to increase the number of GSPs in operation. Presently, 34 GSPs are fully functional, and as many as 80 new applications have been received, which are being reviewed by the department.

Kumar said, "Once they clear the parameters set by the GSTN, they will be granted a licence as there is a huge requirement to increase the number of GSPs."

The GSPs are envisaged to provide innovative and convenient methods to taxpayers and other stakeholders in interacting with the GST Systems from registration of the entity to uploading of invoice details to filing of returns.
