Lenskart develops app for Android users

In a first for the Indian e-commerce industry, one of the leading eyewear companies, Lenskart has launched a unique 'Lenskart Lite' app for Android users which requires no internet connection to shop from its website.

The app is based on SMS technology.

In the absence of internet, the app uses proprietary protocol on top of SMS to communicate with the internal system and, thereby, process the user's request.

Peyush Bansal, CEO Lenskart, said in a statement, "With the changing online business models and evolving consumer behaviour with regard to online shopping, Lenskart aims to provide a hassle-free experience to shoppers through this initiative."

When the internet connection is available, the app switches back to internet.

The app requires internet only at the point of download and is a little over 1 MB in size.
