Walmart India announces Sameer Aggarwal as its Deputy CEO

Walmart India has promoted Sameer Aggarwal to the role of Deputy Chief Executive Officer. He would take over in the coming months the reins of Walmart’s flagship wholesale retail unit in India from present CEO Krish Iyer.

Walmart’s spokesperson said, "Sameer Aggarwal has been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Walmart India effective 1st January 2020. He will continue reporting to Krish Iyer, President & CEO Walmart India, and oversee operations, merchandising, people, marketing, real estate, kirana development program, digital, e-commerce and strategy."

During his less than two year stint at Walmart India, this is the second time Aggarwal has been promoted in the company. Aggarwal began working with Walmart India in April 2018 as its Chief Strategy and Administrative Officer.

Earlier, Sameer has worked with Yum Brands in Thailand and UK retailer Sainsbury’s in London.

According to his Linkedin profile, Aggarwal was elevated to the role of Chief Business Officer in December last year and his promotion to the deputy CEO comes exactly a year after that.

Walmart recently unveiled 28th wholesale store in India

Recently, Walmart India has launched its 28th Best Price Modern Wholesale Store in India in the city of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. The newly opened store simultaneously got integrated with the B2B e-commerce platform, which makes it the 28th ‘Best Price’ Store to go online.

Krish Iyer, President & CEO, Walmart India said, "As we continue to grow our network of cash & carry stores in the country with a mission to help small businesses prosper, we would like to thank all our members, partners, associates and stakeholders for their overwhelming support & contribution to the success of our business. We continue to strive to better serve our members and explore more opportunities to create shared value as we open our 28th ‘Best Price’ Store in the country."

28th Best Price Modern Wholesale Store

Spread over 50,000 sq ft, the store will cater to the business needs of underserved small businesses like kiranas/resellers, offices & institutions (O&I) and hotels, restaurants, and caterers (HORECA) of the region.

The Cash & Carry Store will enable Walmart India to provide unique value propositions of a wide range of quality merchandise & local assortment at ‘Every Day Low Prices’, unique shopping options, 24-hour door-step delivery and convenient payment solutions to members in Kurnool and adjoining areas.

The store will also be contributing to the local and state economy by creating an estimated 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. It will further boost the smallholder farmers and regional supplier eco-system as it will directly source from farmers and locally relevant food, non-food products from local suppliers to fulfill the needs of its members.

Apart from this, the 28th Best Price Modern Wholesale Store is integrated with sustainable solutions including renewable energy, LED lights, water recycling through Sewage Treatment Plant and groundwater recharging through a collection of stormwater and waste management.
