Meesho Becomes India’s Fastest E-com Platform to cross 1 mn Sellers Milestone

Within just eight years of inception, Meesho has achieved a remarkable milestone of having over 1.1 million sellers on its platform, with more than 600,000 small businesses joining in the past year alone. Meesho is India's fastest-growing e-commerce company, and this achievement has been driven by its industry-first policies, such as 0 percent commission, which creates a level playing field for all sellers.

A noteworthy aspect of this milestone is that more than 80 percent of the 1.1 million sellers are new to e-commerce, and Meesho was their first exposure to online selling. Additionally, nearly 50 percent of these sellers come from Tier ll+ regions, including places like Pulwama in Kashmir, Una in Himachal Pradesh, Nagamangala in Karnataka, Jowai in Meghalaya, and Mount Abu in Rajasthan. This reflects Meesho's commitment to democratizing internet commerce and bringing the smallest sellers online.

In 2022, Meesho helped 70,000 MSMEs expand their business and saved sellers on its platform Rs. 3,700 crore in commissions, enabling them to maximize their earnings and reinvest in growing their businesses.

Utkrishta Kumar, CXO, Business at Meesho said, “In line with the government’s vision of an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, Meesho has built a robust platform to help small businesses grow and succeed online. Driven by our industry-first initiatives such as zero commission, an increasing number of MSMEs have chosen to partner with us. As India’s only true e-commerce platform, Meesho doesn’t segregate sellers on the basis of tiers, nor does it have private labels or an inventory-led play. Our democratic approach is evident from the fact that we have the lowest GMV concentration by suppliers in the industry.” 

In 2022, Meesho recorded 140 million annual transacting users on its platform – a sizable portion of India’s internet population. Access to Meesho’s large and diverse user base, state-of-the-art tech, and low-cost pan-India shipping through third-party logistics providers has helped sellers log 3X growth in average revenue.

Manish Khandelwal, a Meesho seller who owns an apparel brand, Sevanti added, "When my nephew Ankit and I first started selling online on Meesho in 2019, we had no idea about the e-commerce industry. In Meesho, we found a platform that could take our products to all corners of the country, thereby helping us scale the business at a phenomenal pace. In our first year, we recorded a turnover of Rs 50 lakh, and since then our business has grown almost 100x in the last 4 years. This growth has not only turned our fortunes but also immensely helped the people associated with us.

With 1.1 million sellers and 100 million active product listings across 30 categories, Meesho is fueling the discoverability of a wide assortment of products at the lowest prices for customers across the country.
