Casual dining chain Barcelos marks its presence at city of joy by opening first restaurant at Kolkata.

The peri peri restaurant chain which entered India in 2014 has already running two outlets in Delhi, one in Gurgaon.

The group is also planning to set up 30 outlets in India in next five years with a projected turnover of Rs 200 crore.

Known for starting the colourful burgers trend in India, Barcelos is planning to add 6-8 outlets this year targeting at locations like Mumbai, Jaipur.

“As part f our expansion plans, we intend to set up 6-8 outlets this year in India in locations in tier-I cities, including Mumbai and Jaipur,” shared Rohit Malhotra, Business Head, Barcelos India.

Located at Acropolis Mall in Kolkata, the new outlet will be serving the same menu as its other restaurant in north India.

"With a steady growth in the hospitality sector and the food and beverages segment here and in India, in past 2-3 years, we see great opportunity for Barcelos, which started its journey in Pretoria in 1993 and visualise 30 outlets by 2021,” Malhotra added.

Barcelos is adding 45 per cent menu as per local demand. “We are adding fish with our menu for the first time in India which we will be procuring locally." With the decor retaining Portuguese-European architecture as evident in over 120 Barcelos outlets all over the world, the logo and interior will largely retain that effect with local feel,” pointed Malhotra.

Indranil Roy Chowdhury and Kaushik Roy Chowdhury, directors of Trivia Food and Beverages, hold the exclusive right of the brand Barcelos in eastern region, who said they are hopeful of the chain notching up a large share in the hospitality sector in coming days and spreading its wings in other important cities.
