CN to build The Powerpuff Girls licensing portfolio
Cartoon Network is on its mission to assemble an all-star line-up of licensing partners for the return of its cult classic The Powerpuff Girls. With the new, re-imagined series slated for a 2016 global launch, the firm has already tapped Spin Master to anchor the roster with a line of plush, figures, play-sets, dolls and more. The new range will make its international debut in autumn 2016. Meanwhile, Penguin Young readers Group will debut a series of books based on The Powerpuff Girls across the US next autumn, while Jakks Pacific’s Disguise Inc. will launch costumes for kids, juniors and adults all based on the new-look trio of superheroes. The re-imagined series will follow the adventures of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as they juggle school with saving the world before bedtime. The new series will boast the vocal talents of Amanda Leighton as Blossom, Kristen Li as Bubbles, Natalie Palamides as Buttercup and Tom Kenny who will be reprising his role as the narrator and Mayor. With more than $2.5 billion generated in retail sales since the show’s debut, The Powerpuff Girls is one of the top-grossing Cartoon Network brands of all time. The studio is now keen to see this success resonate in the new-look series.
