emoji enters licensing agreement with Sony Pictures

To mark the release of The Emoji Movie later this year, emoji company GmbH and Sony Pictures Animation (SPA) have entered into a new licensing agreement for the firm’s registered trademark. The agreement covers the use of the term "emoji" in connection with SPA's worldwide merchandising program for its upcoming comedy feature The Emoji Movie. According to the agreement, both of the companies will now offer unique sets of icons and characters that will target varying audiences. “We are happy to enter into this agreement with Sony Pictures," asserted Marco Huesges, CEO of the emoji company. "There will be no confusion in the marketplace since SPA's products will be from their original and proprietary The Emoji Movie motion picture content, while the emoji company is offering its own developed icons with the classic look and feel known from the Unicode," he added. The Emoji movie is coming to theatres August 11th, 2017. In India, The Emoji Movie is represented by Bradford License India, whereas emoji is represented by Yuvraj Singh’s YouWeCan funded Black White Orange.
