Monetize on the fandom of the thirteenth Doctor of the science-fiction "Doctor Who," BBC Studios and Mattel have teamed up to launch a special edition doll in celebration of new series. A Barbie celebrating actress Jodie Whittaker, the first woman ever to take the title role in the iconic series, in all her high-fashion glory is now up for sale on Mattel.com. Whittaker, 36, made her debut in the sci-fi's season 11 premiere – an year after BBC America announced she'd be the 13th actor and the first female to play the role since the series began in 1963. The doll wears a rainbow striped t-shirt, teamed with cropped trousers and a trench coat. True to character, the Barbie flaunts Doctor Who signature braces and lace-up boots. Also she holds a sonic screwdriver. “This year, we’re introducing an all-new look for Doctor Who,” said David Wilson Nunn, creative director at BBC Studios. “New monsters, new stories, new characters and of course a new Doctor in Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to play the role. “Given Barbie’s celebration of women who have made history, as well as iconic characters from some of the best loved movies and shows, we felt it was a great opportunity to work with Mattel to create a doll based on the Thirteenth Doctor.” David continued, “The Doctor Who Barbie doll offers fans and collectors a new way to celebrate the adventures of this iconic character.”
