She was India's first "masterchef" who gave Indian cuisine a distinct and unique flavour, died on Wednesday at her South Mumbai residence. As per reports, she died at 7 am on Wednesday following a massive heart attack at the age of 77. Besides being a wonderful cook, Tarla Dalal was a noted-writer of various cook books. During her career, she hosted various cookery programmes. In 2007, Dalal became the proud recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. Dalal, who began her career in 1966, authored her first book "The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking" in 1974 that went on to become one of the best-sellers. Since then, she has written over 100 books. She was born and brought up in Pune and is survived by three children.
