One of India’s branded online marketplaces Snapdeal is set to appoint Kanika Kalra of Hindustan Unilever as its executive vice president for marketing. Kalra dons the tag of brand director for Hindustan Lever's biggest skin cream brand Fair & Lovely.

Delhi-based Jasper Infotech, which owns and operates Snapdeal, has finalised Kalra as replacement for Srinivas Murthy, senior vice president-marketing at Snapdeal.

According to an anonymous source, Srinivas Murthy would exit the company by March end.

As per an email query by HUL, Kanika Kalra, global brand director, marketing Hindustan Unilever Limited has decided to leave the company to pursue an external opportunity. Prior to joining HUL eight years ago and working as global brand manager and global brand director, Kalra was a senior manager at Pepsi. She has also worked with Glaxosmithkline Consumer Healthcare Limited and Genpact.

Kalra will be the primary guardian of the Snapdeal brand. She will focus on gaining deeper customer insights, making the business more customer centric, driving creativity and ensuring quality in all communication.

The e-commerce player embarked on aggressive hiring last year and brought in Airtel's Anand Chandrasekaran and Jayant Sood to take charge as chief product officer and chief customer officer respectively.

Making it a healthy practice, Internet startups are keen to lure top talent from bricks-and-mortar firms, especially consumer goods companies, to manage the challenges of scaling up rapidly.
