As the festive season is about to strike the Indian calendar, international online marketplace Amazon is not leaving any stone unturned. The online giant recently revealed that it is beefing up its presence in Indian corridor by installing three more fulfillment centres by the end of the year.
By adding three more centres, company will be taking its total fulfillment centre count to 27 in India. Commenting on the move, Noor Patel, Director-Category Management, Amazon India stated that right now, company has 24 fulfillment centres. By the end of this year, it should be closing with around 27 fulfillment centres. That would give a storage capacity of around 7.5 million cubic feet. That is one of the largest investments it committed to India. Though Patel discussed most of the details of the project with media, but declined to reveal further on investment and location part.
Presently, Amazon's 24 fulfillment centres are located across 10 states of the country. Further, India is the only country where company has built its own delivery infrastructure. A senior official of the company said that the sale of 4G phones have significantly gone up during the past few months. He, however, did not directly attribute it to the launch of Reliance Jio.
According to him, Amazon has announced the Great Indian Sale from October 1 to 5. And it would the largest event in India. Diwali, in 2015, had witnessed sale four times more than that was in the previous year, he said.
