Finally after understanding the mindset of new-age online shoppers, eCommerce major Myntra has re-launched its desktop website ditching the decision to be an app-only platform. The company, on Saturday, relaunched its desktop website which has a very unique and responsive look all together.
Expressing his gratitude to users, company’s CEO Ananth Narayanan communicated the relauch through an email that said, “We listened to your feedback and brought the website back. We believe that customers should have maximum choice, be it in selection of clothes or the device they like to shop on.”
The Bengaluru-based eCommerce firm faced a lot of criticism when it decided to turn an app-only platform. The company reported a net loss of 729 cr for the year ended March 2015. However, it now expects to increase its gross sales by 90 per cent to around 5,000 cr. As per industry experts, Myntra could expand its customer base by 20 per cent if it give users the option of using multiple platforms for shopping.
The company expects to get 15-20 per cent of its sales in the current financial year to come from the desktop website. In April, Flipkart-owned eCommerce platform had also introduced home furnishings and personal care category which is now available on the desktop website too.
Myntra played a big trump in order to create a monopoly in mobile commerce space and thus shut its mobile website in March 2015 and its desktop website in May 2015. Before closing the website, 90% of its traffic and 70% of its sales came from the mobile platform. However, Myntra had to re-launch its mobile website, in February 2016.
