Yet another blow for homegrown eCommerce portal Snapdeal with its Chief Product Officer Anand Chandrasekaran calling it a day at the company. The Silicon Valley hire has quit Snapdeal within a year of signing up. Chandrasekaran joined Snapdeal from telecom giant Airtel and was associated with Yahoo prior to that.
The Stanford University Alum was hired three months after ex-Googler Punit Soni was singed up by Flipkart in the same capacity. Soni had too left Flipkart as the company couldn’t find a clear fit for him after its management reshuffle that made Binny Bansal the CEO.
As per a Snapdeal spokesperson, Anand decided to move out of Snapdeal to pursue his entrepreneurial interests. Anand has done some stellar work on the product side at Snapdeal, he added.
Commenting up the trend, an industry expert said that the two key reasons for Valley talent to leave after short stints are different environment than Valley and all of them are overpriced for the role they were hired for.
Chandrasekaran was spearheading the product division for Snapdeal and its assets including Freecharge, Shopo, Exclusively, among others. With his exit Snapdeal has now seen many top-level exodus over the past year which include names such as Srinivas Murthy, Senior VP Marketing; Rajan Kant Head- Strategy; Aakash Moondhra, CFO; Amitabh Misra, CTO, among others.
