While we got in touch with diverse online players including Ebay, Timtara, Kidloo, Excluzen, Lady Blush, First Cry, Playgroundonline, Gifting Ideas, Indiacrafthouse and Zivame, we gathered some interesting insights into the trends this season. Offline retailers too are all out there, launching their collections, including players like Biba, Global Desi to UCB and D&G, among others.
Few trends offline
Global Desi’s creative director - Anita Dongre shares with us that the merchandise sold most this season at Global Desi is tunics and knits. She adds that the funky fusion of dresses and knits accompanied with accessories is a big hit this time, the special item launched being - The aquatic themed ‘Aseema Collection’. Referring to the merchandising and the focus areas, Dongre shares, “Keeping summer in mind, all colours and shades are summery, in white linens, pastel shades of pinks, yellows and baby blues. Fabrics used are cool and comfortable accompanied with placement prints, funky knits and vibrant motifs.”
BIBA Girls, a dedicated range from BIBA catering to young girls aged between 2 to 12 years, has introduced its Spring Summer collection’s designs and prints in shades of the rainbow – pure whites, pretty pinks, innocent blues, volatile reds, bubblegum peach, pastel yellows, fresh limes and turquoise to fancy one’s imagination.
Available at DLF Promenade, bYSI, the fast fashion brand of Singapore, has also introduced its Spring Summer 2012 collection, disclosing a look of modern simplicity with delicate feminine detailing and is apropos to dress you up for every occasion. This season bYSI promises to take you through the style of 50s and 60s which has inspired its designs. At bYSI, the theme is bold colours, subtle fabric and chic design which is felt as an essential factor while doing up summer wardrobe.
Online players’ take
While most of the players have plans to encash in on the summer holidays and vacation time, interestingly, there was one player who did not agree on the same. Shailesh Bishnoi, Director, www.theindiacrafthouse.com opines, “As the season ahead is holiday for most schools - we do not see as shopping season, so sales will dip.”
“Besides gearing up for the summer season consumers also planning for school summer vacation time, thereby planning annual leaves. Moreover, March and April are the months where one sees many new gadget launches. New gadget launches are also highlighted and gadgets at the end of their cycle are heavily discounted,” avers Kashyap Vadapalli – CMO, eBay India. Suvir Khullar, Director, Gifting Ideas Pvt Ltd, who recently launched his portal, is also quite bullish about the sales, having launched an interesting array of products for this season.
Prashanth Gowriraju, CEO, Kidloo - Hoorayy Technologies Pvt Ltd states, “This is the happening season for most toy sellers across India. Most kids are out on summer vacations and spending trend jumps pretty high when compared to the first quarter of the year.” Srini Battula and RK Kalluri, promoters of playgroundonline.com share that this season witnesses the surge of sales in swimming related products apart from regular sports items like cycling, cricket and badminton.
Urvashi Bahuguna Sahay - CEO & Founder of Excluzen.com comments, “Since summer vacations are on, families are very keen in exploring international destinations. We are getting maximum queries on Travel & Spa category. We are also getting requests on Gadgets and Fashion accessories.” She further says, “The interesting trend is that people aren’t afraid of spending huge amount on quality products and services online.”
