dPronto, a company in the last mile delivery space, announced a tie-up with Snapdeal, one of India’s largest online marketplaces, for its offering in last mile delivery across India. With this tie-up, dPronto adds to Snapdeal’s offering of same day delivery to customers.
This partnership will help Snapdeal expand its offering of same day delivery to a larger customer base. Under this arrangement, dPronto’s trained delivery staff will pick up packages from Snapdeal’s sellers or fulfillment centers and deliver to customers on the same day the order is placed. Currently Snapdeal’s success rate is 90% in same day delivery, which has raised customer delight significantly.
dPronto is leveraging its group company, Empower Pragati’s vast mobilization and skill training network, spread across 600 towns in India, to train and hire logistics staff. Through this tie-up with dPronto and the group company, Snapdeal will help in ensuring a large number of underprivileged youth in India get dignified jobs.
Empower Pragati (a Social Enterprise) holds the distinction of being one of the earliest training partners of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a public private partnership in India, which facilitates skill development of the youth. Since its inception in 2010, Empower Pragati has skilled over 100,000 underprivileged youth. The organization has a target to train 50,000 in the next 3 years for jobs in the Logistics sector alone. This initiative will help solve the biggest problem of manpower turnover, faced by online marketplaces and logistics companies. By gaining skill sets in logistics jobs these youth will get respectable employment that will ensure them a steady income by which they are able to transform their own and their families’ lives.
E-commerce logistics including last mile logistics is a critical element in the online retail market and is pegged to reach $5.1 billion by 2020. Last mile logistics, the space dPronto is operating in, is considered a pain point by many e-commerce companies and is critical as it serves as an end-customer touch point. Last mile logistics alone constitutes 40% of e-commerce logistics and is expected to grow at CAGR 48% to reach $2.1 billion by 2020.
Ashish Chitravanshi, Vice President, Operations at Snapdeal says, “dPronto’s initiative of empowering the less privileged youth by making them employable is highly commendable. We are excited to be partnering with them to further strengthen our last mile delivery capabilities as we remain committed to our promise of catering to every customer in every pin code.”
Rajiv Sharma, Managing Director and Co-Founder of dPronto said, “We are excited about providing last mile logistics services to Snapdeal starting with Delhi-NCR. We are confident that this partnership will scale rapidly to reach many additional towns and thereby help in transforming the lives of underprivileged youth in those towns.”
